Abstract

Extended sheets are commonly known as metallic component with diamond shaped holes conformed by cut followed by strain. They are mostly manufactured by C-Mn mild steel, but in corrosive environment, it is suggested to replace the C steel by stainless steel. This work is a comparative study about mechanical behaviors of extended sheets made by ferritic stainless steels and low C mild steel. Optical microscopy, hardness, tensile and bending tests have been carried out. Results show that the microstructures are influenced by the expansion process. Deformed grains were observed mainly in the extended sheet rods. It was concluded that stainless steels are also suitable material for those products when superior corrosion resistance are mandatory for applications in aggressive environments.
