Abstract

A cooperative research network, called TECOMAT, was created in order to develop the computational thermodynamic in the development of advanced materials. Having in mind the strategic position of steels in Brazil and, in particular, those with high value, the network decided to start with non-metallic inclusions as they play an important role for the quality of these steels. The network is composed by a group of academic and research Institutions as well as some steelmaking industries. This paper presents the main steps for the network creation, the identification of some objectives, and finally a short exposition of the adopted methodology as well as the results of the works carried out up to now. Some comments were introduced for the first results of the inclusion characterization and the next steps were highlighted. The open nature of the network as well as its focus in a pre-competitive matter was emphasized.
