Abstract

The objective of this work is to manufacture 316l stainless steel (SS316l) metal parts via additive manufacturing, using the material extrusion (MEX) technique, and to evaluate how printing speed affects the properties of this material. For this purpose, speeds of 15 mm/s and 50 mm/s were used. The manufactured parts underwent tests to evaluate roughness, microhardness, and morphological properties. The results showed the feasibility of producing this material using this technique and the formation of an austenitic microstructure, in addition to demonstrating that lower speeds reduced porosity in the samples. This porosity is caused by the manufacturing process and can negatively affect the mechanical properties of these materials, which shows that the procedure adopted still needs to be optimized.
