  • Review articles: review articles should discuss and evaluate specific topics of current interest. A review must be critical and assess recent advances and future perspectives on the topic in question. It must not exceed 12 pages, including Figures, Tables and references. Authors interested in submitting review articles should consult the editors, sending their resume and a brief summary of the proposed review. If accepted, an invitation from the Editors will follow. This invitation does not exempt the contribution from the review process;
  • Short communications: these communications can be: (I) a brief report of the preliminary results of relevant research, (II) a presentation of a new research or technique, (III) topics, opinions or proposals that would be of interest to readers; and (IV) discussion or further evidence and interpretations related to articles published on TMM. Short communications must also be original. They should contain no more than 4 pages.

Preprints

In line with SciELO's Open Science Policy, TMM encourages the sharing of manuscripts in Preprint format as a way of disseminating information more quickly ahead of the article's publication.

Before the submission of a Preprint, the author must complete the Open Science Compliance Form.

Note: sharing a preprint on a preprint server, such as SciELO - https://preprints.scielo.org/ -, will not be considered as prior publication.

Conference Proceedings

TMM does not accept submissions from conference proceedings that have not been invited by the journal. Even for proceedings invited papers, must submit a version of the paper with a substantial change and development of the results, methodology, analyzes, conclusions and/or implications, in comparison to the previously published paper. 1) Editorial Policy

Ethics in Publishing and Research Misconduct

As peer reviewed contributions are essential to the development of science and technology, Technology in Metallurgy, Materials and Mining considers ethics in publication a key issue and does not accept Research Misconduct.

The journal fundamentally adopts the definitions of misconduct established by the Office of Research Integrity ORI ((https://ori.hhs.gov/definition-misconduct): Misconduct in research includes: data or results forgery, falsification of data or results, and plagiarism, including self-plagiarism.

The proper conduct of editors and reviewers includes maintaining the confidentiality of works under review and after review, respecting the originality of works submitted to a clear indication of conflicts of interest and refusal of the paper when technical or independence conditions do not exist for a correct judgment and free.

To ensure proper conduct in the publication process, the journal encourages Authors, Editors and Reviewers to follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics - COPE (http://publicationethics.org), in all stages of the process.

All cases of possible misconduct are rigorously investigated by the Journal, under the coordination of the Chief Editor and are only concluded when fully clarified.

Since April 2020, all articles submitted have been verified using the iThenticate plagiarism identifier; partial or total copies of text, unauthorized or not referenced, will characterize plagiarism. Self-plagiarism is also verified within COPE guidelines.

Aiming to reinforce and expand the transparency of research, the data sources, materials, methods and computer program codes used in the design, implementation and communication of research projects should be explained and referenced according to Level 1 of the Transparency and Opennes Promotion Guidelines (TOP).

Conflict of interests

Authors should report any conflict of interest that may inappropriately influence their results or positions.

Authors, when submitting their contributions to TMM, agree to:

  • Submit for publication only unpublished articles, ensuring the veracity and authenticity of the data, and that they have not been submitted and are not being considered to submission to other publications;
  • Cite and correctly reference all data and interpretations from other publications;
  • Report to TMM any potential conflict of interest by all authors;
  • Inform all sources of financing;
  • Offer retractions or corrections of errors, whenever necessary and requested by the editor.
  • Observe the criteria for attribution of authorship, including only those who are effectively involved in the research and have participated in the work;
  • Explain the authorship, who participated, and how. The basic forms of participation are:
    • Conception and idealization of work
    • Data collection
    • Analysis and interpretation of data
    • Preparation of the article
    • Critical review of the article
    • Final approval of the version to be published. (The final approval of the version to be published must be given, obligatorily, by ALL authors)
  • Permission  to use Figures and Tables
    Permission to reproduce any previously published figures or tables must be submitted with the first submission of the article, presenting the sources (including the internet) that authorize the use of copyrighted material.
  • Checking the proofs

The contact author will receive proofs via e-mail. The objective of sending the proof to the authors is that the authors have a final chance of checking for typesetting errors and for the completeness and accuracy of the text, tables and figures.

The typesetterts will introduce questions in the proofs wherever clarifications are required from the author. We request the authors to clearly address and answer these questions.
It is specially important to verify authors names, affiliations and addresses.

We expect that the proofs be reviewed and submitted promptly.

Limits on Author’s corrections in the proof

After the manuscript is accepted for typesetting and production, author alterations are expected to be minor corrections, in special the corrections for typographical errors that may have happened during the typesetting processes. Corrections beyond that are not permitted.

Changes that alter the content in content, e.g., new results, corrected values, as well as changes of title and/or of  authorship are not allowed without the approval of the Chief-Editor, who may submit the modified manuscript to a new peer review process. In this case, should the changes be accepted, it will also be required that the authors reimburse ABM for the typesetting costs associated with these changes.

Normally revised proofs will not be sent to the author

Reviewers' rights and obligations

When reviewers receive an invitation to evaluate a contribution, they commit to:

  • Refuse the invitation if they have any potential conflicts of interest;
  • Carry out the evaluation themselves, with due care and dedication;
  • Accept invitations only when they are able to carry out the evaluation within the stipulated time period;
  • Inform about relevant published article that has not been cited;
  • Maintain confidentiality about reviewed articles and not use any information from the contribution before its publication.

Editors must always:

  • Ensure impartial peer evaluation;
  • Guarantee the anonymity of reviewers and authors;
  • Assess and investigate all cases and suspicions of misconduct and lack of ethics;
  • Prevent financial interests from compromising the publication's ethical standards.

Data References

This journal encourages you to cite underlying or relevant datasets in your manuscript by citing them in your text and including a data reference in your Reference List. Data references should include the following elements: author name(s), dataset title, data repository, version (where available), year, and global persistent identifier. Add [dataset] immediately before the reference so we can properly identify it as a data reference. The [dataset] identifier will not appear in your published article.

Ex.:
[dataset] [5] Oguro M, Imahiro S, Saito S, Nakashizuka T. Mortality data for Japanese oak wilt disease and surrounding forest compositions, Mendeley Data, v1; 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.17632/xwj98nb39r.1

G) Changes to Authorship

Changes in the authorship of the article, whether additions or subtractions, must be made by request addressed to the Chief Editor of TMM, and with the consent of all authors and respectively signed by all of them. The reason for the addition or subtraction must be cleared stated in the request. In the case of subtraction, the agreement of the subtracted author is also required.

3) TMM - How to cite

How to cite: Surname AA, Surname BB, Surname CC, Surname DD. Article title. Tecnol Metal Mater Min. year;volume:elocation. DOI

4) Research data

This journal encourages and enables you to share data that supports your research publication where appropriate, and enables you to interlink the data with your published articles. Research data refers to the results of observations or experimentation that validate research findings. To facilitate reproducibility and data reuse, this journal also encourages you to share your software, code, models, algorithms, protocols, methods and other useful materials related to the project.
Below are some ways in which you can associate data with your article or make a statement about the availability of your data when submitting your manuscript. If you are sharing data in one of these ways, you are encouraged to cite the data in your manuscript and reference list. Please refer to the "References" section for more information about data citation.

Data linking

If you have made your research data available in a data repository, you can link your article directly to the dataset. There are different ways to link your datasets to your article. When available, you can directly link your dataset to your article by providing the relevant information in your paper.
You can link to relevant data or entities through identifiers within the text of your manuscript, using the following format: Database: xxxx (e.g., TAIR: AT1G01020; CCDC: 734053; PDB: 1XFN).

Data statement

To foster transparency, we encourage you to state the availability of your data in your submission. This may be a requirement of your funding body or institution. If your data is unavailable to access or unsuitable to post, you will have the opportunity to indicate why during the submission process, for example by stating that the research data is confidential.

Theses and dissertations

TMM Journal does not consider the publication of an academic thesis or dissertation as a prior publication. However, it is essential that the citation to the thesis or dissertation is clear in the submitted paper and that this fact is also highlighted in the submission letter. It should also be noted that the writing of a thesis or dissertation is generally different from that used for a journal publication, and authors are advised to pay special attention to these differences.This fact should be noted by the authors and will certainly be taken into account by the reviewers when evaluating the work.

5) On-line Submission

Submission of articles to the journal Technology in Metallurgy, Materials and Mining must be done on-line by registering directly through the link https://tmm.submitcentral.com.br/login.php?lingua=en

6) Publication Fee

Publication fee: U$150.00

Submission is free of charge, but approved articles will be subject to the following terms, for corresponding author:

  • Not ABM member: payment of the full publication fee;
  • New ABM member (with only one paid annuity): 50% discount;
  • ABM current members (at least 2 full years of membership and 2 consecutive annuities paid): 100% discount.

Note: Non-member corresponding authors who wish to become an ABM member will only be eligible for discounts on publication fees once payment of the annual fee has been confirmed.

7) Evaluation of Articles

Before release to the editors, the articles are analyzed by the editorial assistant, checking compliance with the submission rules, as well as the absence of plagiarism, through the iThenticate system (in use since April 2020).

Subsequently, the articles are sent to the Chief Editor or to one of the executive or assistant Editors for the choice of two ad hoc reviewers, who will adopt the following analysis criteria: scope, relevance of the theme, originality, presentation of results, objectives, conclusions, etc.

The entire system is automated and confidential - the authors are unaware of the reviewers responsible for the evaluation and vice versa (double-blind system).

Authors are asked, at the time of submission, to indicate two possible reviewers (avoiding conflicts of interest) for their work. These reviewers may be invited, at the discretion of the Editors.

The reviewers issue one of four possible recommendations: accept without review, accept with optional review, accept with mandatory review or reject. The Executive Editor or the Chief Editor assesses the reviews and delivers the final opinion. After correction and resubmission by the authors, the contributions are again evaluated by the reviewers.
If the manuscript is rejected for publication, the authors will be notified and have the opportunity to appeal the decision by e-mail.
In all evaluations, the content of the reviewers' opinion is disclosed only to the authors.

Approved articles will be composed and sent to the authors for correction of possible errors. At this stage, changes to content will not be accepted. If there is no response from the authors, publication will be stopped.

Suggestions, questions and complaints can be sent directly to TMM's email address (tmm@abmbrasil.com.br).
Errata will be published whenever necessary, directly in the articles or on the site itself, depending on the analysis of each situation.
